Brazilian Universities Expand Health Professions Programs
The physiotherapy program at Centro Universitário Uninorte resumed admissions in early 2026 after a pandemic‑induced pause, with 28 students now enrolled in the second semester and a new cohort being formed. Coordinator Simone Fernandes highlighted the profession’s heightened market value following its frontline role during COVID‑19 and noted that many local health‑care positions are filled by Uninorte alumni.
Meanwhile, the Federal University of Cariri (UFCA) received Ministry of Education approval to launch ten new undergraduate courses under the Programa Universidades Transformadoras. Among the approved health‑related degrees are physiotherapy, speech‑language pathology and occupational therapy, slated to begin in 2027, alongside programs in artificial intelligence, data science, architecture and others. The expansion aims to meet regional demand and increase professional training opportunities across Brazil.
