Brazilian universities host events on indigenous knowledge and education

Academic institutions in Brazil are hosting events focused on integrating indigenous knowledge with higher education and healthcare.

UniNorte and Unama recently conducted the ‘Imersão no Tupé’, a multidisciplinary program involving students from nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, and physical education. The initiative included clinical practices, pharmacology workshops using local species, and a full-day immersion in the Tupé Community to foster intercultural dialogue and contextualized health training within the Amazonian geography.

Separately, PUC-SP is hosting its 18th ‘Retomada Indígena’, an event celebrating 25 years of the Pindorama Program. The program focuses on the access and retention of indigenous students in universities. The event features discussions on human rights, health, and interculturality, with participation from leaders such as Sônia Guajajara. The week includes cultural presentations, an indigenous fair, and the launch of an anti-racist indigenous handbook.
