Brazilian Universities Launch Free French and Creative Writing Courses

The Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS) announced free French language courses for undergraduate and graduate students, staff, and the wider community. Applications are open until 3 August, with classes beginning on 10 August. The program, run by the Agency of Internationalization (Aginter) in partnership with UFMS’s student affairs and human resources offices and the French Embassy in Brazil, offers intermediate, beginner, and conversation‑club options, the latter available both in‑person and online.

The Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) is closing registrations on 31 July for a free distance‑learning creative‑writing course. One thousand spots are available; the top 100 participants will receive a scholarship of up to R$ 6 000 (R$ 2 000 per month for three months). The course is offered by UFRGS’s Institute of Letters in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture through the Territórios da Escrita program. Applicants must be over 18, reside in Brazil, and hold a high‑school diploma, and must submit a short personal statement without AI‑generated content.
