Brazilian university studies examine linguistic bias and school evaluation
Researchers at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro evaluated the extension project “Ações contra o Preconceito Linguístico.” By analysing 148 Instagram and YouTube references, they identified how teachers, students and the wider public perceive the initiative. Findings show the project is viewed as both a sociolinguistic outreach effort and a formative experience that strengthens university‑society links while combating linguistic prejudice.
A separate study investigated early‑grade school assessment practices within a Laboratory of Contemporary Teaching (LABDOC). Using narratives from participating teachers, the authors linked evaluation approaches to neoliberal rationalities and existing policy frameworks. The research argues for a more ethical, formative assessment culture that moves beyond performance‑driven metrics.
Both works highlight how university‑led research can influence pedagogical and societal attitudes in Brazil.
