Brazilian Volleyball Federation honors 1976 Olympic team
The Confederação Brasileira de Voleibol (CBV) held a ceremony on 3 August 2024 at its Development Centre in Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro, to mark the 50th anniversary of the men’s volleyball team that competed at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games. Former players—including Bernard Rajzman, Fernandão, Carlos Arthur Nuzman, William Carvalho, José Roberto Guimarães, Antônio Carlos Moreno, Alexandre Abeid, Celso Kalache, Elói de Oliveira, Paulão, Paulo Russo, Paulo Sérgio and coach Carlos Souto—reunited for the event; Danilas was absent and the late Bebeto de Freitas and Jean Luc Rosat were remembered.
The programme featured a tour of the national teams’ training facilities, a lunch with CBV president Radamés Lattari and Brazilian Olympic Committee president Marco La Porta, and the opportunity to watch the current men’s squad, coached by Bernardinho, train for the upcoming South American Championship. Lattari said the tribute honored those who “built the history of Brazilian volleyball at the Montreal Games,” while captain Antônio Carlos Moreno expressed gratitude for the “special and human” recognition.
