Brazilian Voters Reject WhatsApp Political Groups Ahead of 2026 Election

A poll commissioned by Banco Genial and conducted by research firm Quaest surveyed 2,004 Brazilian adults (aged 16+) between July 10‑13, 2026. 87% of respondents said they do not intend to join political WhatsApp groups for the 2026 election, while only 11% plan to do so and 2% are undecided. Only 24% expect to attend street rallies for their preferred candidate. 63% intend to follow candidates’ interviews and proposals, and 60% will keep up with political news coverage. On digital platforms, 47% say they will monitor campaign activity online, compared with 48% who say they will not.

The findings, registered with Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court (TSE) under number BR‑07181/2026, suggest that campaign strategies relying on mass WhatsApp group outreach may have limited reach. Parties and candidates may need to emphasize televised interviews, policy proposals and broader media engagement to connect with the electorate.
