Brazilian woman sentenced to over 10 years for murder of truck driver in Rondonópolis
Gabriely Lorraine Moreira, 24, was convicted by a jury in Rondonópolis, Brazil, for the qualified homicide of 52‑year‑old truck driver Edésio Silva Arantes. The killing occurred on 27 October 2022 when the victim was stabbed in the chest after Moreira lured him to his home’s gate.
The Specialized Homicide and Protection Unit (DHPP) gathered forensic evidence, witness statements and other investigative material, leading to Moreira’s indictment and subsequent arrest after a period as a fugitive. On 1 July 2023, the court sentenced her to 10 years, 7 months and 15 days of imprisonment, to be served initially under a closed‑regime.
