Brazilian workers aim for INSS pensions of two minimum wages

Many Brazilian contributors are targeting a retirement benefit equal to two minimum wages – about R$ 3,242 per month in 2026 – and need long‑term, regular contributions to the INSS. The pension is calculated from the average of all contributions recorded since July 1994, with the prevailing rule granting 60% of that average plus bonuses for extra years. For a contribution level that could generate two minimum‑wage benefits, the Normal plan requires a 20% contribution on a salary of R$ 3,242, translating to roughly R$ 648.40 per month.

Beneficiaries often receive lower amounts because of gaps or errors in the CNIS (National Social Security Registry). Workers are advised to review their CNIS, correct missing periods with documentation such as work cards, payslips, tax statements or employer records, and use the Meu INSS portal for simulations. The 2019 pension reform introduced several transition regimes – points system, progressive minimum age, 50% and 100% “pedágio” – that can substantially affect the final pension value. Careful planning and verification can therefore increase the monthly retirement income for millions of contributors.
