Brazilian workers rally for labor reforms and improved conditions

Bank employees of Caixa Econômica Federal in Brazil's Southern region held a virtual plenary on March 30 to discuss the ongoing National Campaign 2026. Union representatives presented a draft of specific demands, including renewal of the collective labour agreement, reforms to the Caixa statute, abolition of the health‑care cost ceiling, and stronger policies for people with disabilities. They emphasized the need to monitor negotiations with management and maintain continuous dialogue to prioritize achievable claims.

On the same day in Porto Alegre, trade unions, public‑sector workers and social movements marched to demand the end of the "6 × 1" work schedule and a shift to a 40‑hour week without wage cuts. Participants highlighted the recent approval of a constitutional amendment in the Chamber of Deputies that proposes these changes and urged the Senate to act. The protest linked the labour‑time issue with broader demands such as opposing the privatization of state schools and defending workers' rights under the Consolidated Labour Law.
