Brazil's 1970 World Cup team celebrated as football landmark

In 1970 Brazil won its third FIFA World Cup title in Mexico, recording six victories and scoring 19 goals. The final at the Estadio Azteca saw Brazil defeat Italy 4‑1, with goals from Pelé, Gérson, Jairzinho and Carlos Alberto Torres. Managed by Mário Zagallo and led by captain Carlos Alberto, the squad is widely regarded as one of the greatest football teams ever, epitomising the “futebol arte” style.

Brazil’s record achievements include the most World Cup appearances (23), the most titles (5), the highest number of matches played (114) and won (76), and a run of 11 consecutive victories between 2002 and 2006. Individual milestones feature Pelé as the only three‑time champion, Zagallo as the only person with four titles (player, coach and assistant), and Jairzinho scoring in every match of the 1970 tournament.
