Brazil's 2026 Electoral Fund Allocates R$ 4.9 bn, Three Parties Capture Nearly 40%

The Brazilian Electoral Fund (Fundão) for the 2026 elections totals R$ 4.9 billion, sourced from the federal budget rather than private donations. The Superior Electoral Court released the final distribution, which heavily favors the three largest parliamentary blocs. The Liberal Party (PL) receives R$ 881.7 million, the Workers' Party (PT) R$ 615.4 million, and União Brasil R$ 526.2 million, together accounting for almost 40 % of the total pool.

Seven parties together hold more than 70 % of the fund, reflecting a concentration of campaign resources among the PL, PT, and the Centrão group (PSD, PP, MDB, Republicanos, and others). Smaller parties such as Agir, Mobiliza, PCB, PCO and Unidade Popular obtain only minimal shares. The fund, created in 2017 to curb private corporate contributions, has grown from R$ 1.7 billion in 2018 to the current record amount, with the 2022 budget increase later sealed at R$ 4.9 billion for 2026. Allocation follows a formula based on each party’s recent congressional representation, and the money will be released to party accounts starting in June after internal compliance with gender and racial quota rules.
