Brazil's 2026 holiday schedule promises extended weekends

In 2026 several Brazilian national holidays fall on Mondays or Fridays, creating multiple long‑weekend opportunities. The calendar includes Independence Day on September 7, Children’s Day on October 12, All Souls' Day on November 2, the newly recognized National Day of Zumbi and Black Awareness on November 20, and Christmas on December 25, all of which occur adjacent to weekends.

A law passed in December 2023 makes the November 20 observance a nationwide holiday, extending the reach of Black Awareness celebrations. Additionally, a pending Ministry of Labor order set for March 2026 will require collective bargaining agreements for commercial activities to operate on holidays, though essential services remain exempt.

Tourism operators are already promoting holiday travel. The Atibaia Residence Hotel & Resort in São Paulo’s interior offers a special program from October 9‑12 for the Children’s Day break, featuring outdoor activities such as treasure hunts, zip‑lining, and arboreal courses, along with all‑inclusive accommodations. Organizers advise early bookings due to historically high demand for the extended holiday period.
