Brazil's Agrarian Minister announces support for traditional communities

Fernanda Machiaveli, the Minister of Agrarian Development and Family Farming, is conducting an institutional agenda in Northeast Brazil focused on supporting traditional communities.

In Pernambuco, the minister will announce several initiatives for the Conceição das Crioulas Quilombola Territory in Salgueiro. These include the delivery of housing credits to 43 families and the announcement of new housing credits for an additional 162 families. Furthermore, 235 families will receive initial support credits. The ministry also announced the release of R$ 5 million for productive groups of women and youth, alongside R$ 60 million for technical assistance and rural extension projects (ATER) targeting 10,000 families.

In Maranhão, the agenda focuses on the valorization of babaçu coconut breakers. The minister is visiting the Ludovico Community to engage with field activities, including harvesting and visiting processing facilities such as a soap factory. The visit includes a meeting with coconut breakers from both Maranhão and Piauí to reinforce support for extractive activities and traditional female labor in the region.
