Brazil expands agribusiness logistics via tech platforms and growing cabotage

Brazil's agribusiness, which adds about 5% to grain output each year, remains hampered by logistics bottlenecks, with over 70% of freight moving by road. Companies are launching technology‑driven solutions to improve efficiency. Motz, a transport platform linking shippers, carriers and truckers, reported a 147% rise in agribusiness clients in 2025, moved 1.24 million tonnes of soy, generated more than R$ 2 billion in net revenue and targets a 16% revenue increase by the end of 2026. Nstech, the leading supply‑chain software provider in Latin America, created a dedicated agribusiness unit that now accounts for roughly 30% of its sales, offering digital tools for cold‑chain logistics, trading, and agro‑inputs.

Domestic cabotage – ship transport between Brazilian ports – remains a small but fast‑growing mode, representing about 14% of the national transport mix. In the first half of 2025 cargo moved by cabotage rose 6.1% to 434,9 k TEUs, and total tonnage reached 223 million tonnes for the year, a 4.33% increase. The modal promises lower costs, fewer emissions and less cargo theft, yet faces high fees, limited port capacity and poor rail links. Mondelēz International, which adopted cabotage in 2023, has nearly tripled its annual shipments using the service.
