Brazil's agribusiness valued at R$1.4 trillion in 2026, driven by soy and cattle

The Ministry of Agriculture's June 2026 estimate puts the gross value of Brazil's agricultural production (VBP) at R$1.4 trillion. Crops generate about R$893 billion (64% of the total) and livestock R$511 billion (36%). Soybeans are the leading sector, accounting for R$335.8 billion (23.9% of VBP) with a projected 180.6 million tonnes, a 5.3% increase over the previous cycle. Cattle contribute R$249.5 billion (17.5% of VBP) while corn adds R$155.3 billion, sugarcane R$108.7 billion, poultry R$107.3 billion, coffee R$104.4 billion and milk R$74.4 billion.

The grain harvest outlook is also bullish, with Conab forecasting a national grain production of 360.1 million tonnes, including 141.7 million tonnes of corn. The Acre state reported a 12.4% rise in cattle slaughter in the first half of 2026, exporting 3,156 tonnes of beef for US$16.1 million. Frigoríficos have increased live‑cattle purchases, lifting prices in regions such as Goiás and Mato Grande do Sul, while Brazil’s beef exports to China remain robust.

Analysts warn that an intense El Niño could limit soybean productivity in the 2026/27 season, though overall planted area is expected to grow modestly. The sector’s performance continues to shape Brazil’s economy and its position in global commodity markets.
