Brazil notifies YouTube over AI-generated fake medical profiles

The Brazilian government has launched a task force to combat health disinformation on YouTube involving 97 profiles that use artificial intelligence to simulate doctors and medical professionals. These profiles use human-like avatars, fictitious qualifications, and alarmist language to promote unproven cures and services, often targeting elderly populations.

The Ministry of Health's 'Saúde com Ciência' program identified these accounts between January and July 2026. The Ministry warns that such content poses significant health risks, including self-medication, the use of ineffective therapies, delays in seeking professional medical care, and the abandonment of legitimate treatments.

The Attorney General's Office (AGU) has formally notified Google, the operator of YouTube, demanding the removal of the identified content or the implementation of clear labeling and contextualization within 72 hours. The AGU has also shared information regarding these profiles with the Federal Police and the Federal Council of Medicine to facilitate further investigation.
