Brazil's anti‑misogyny bill report slated for June 10 presentation

A working group of Brazil's Chamber of Deputies will present the final report on the anti‑misogyny bill on Wednesday, June 10, at 2 p.m. The report was confirmed by the group’s coordinator, Deputy Tabata Amaral (PSB‑SP), after the public hearing phase concluded. The draft law, authored by Senator Ana Paula Lobato (PSB‑MA), defines misogyny – hatred or aversion toward women – as a crime comparable to racism and proposes imprisonment of two to five years. It also doubles the penalties for offenses such as injury, defamation and slander when they occur in the context of domestic violence against women. The bill has already been approved by the Senate and, if the Chamber passes it without amendments, it will move directly to the president for sanction.

The working group continues to accept technical contributions before finalizing the text, aiming to strengthen legal tools against gender‑based hate speech and discrimination.
