Brazil's Anvisa orders recall of repellent batch and several cosmetics

Brazil's health regulator Anvisa published a decision in the Official Gazette on Monday (29) that suspends the sale, distribution and use of repellent batch 61/411 produced by Mavaro Indústria e Comércio de Produtos Químicos Ltda. The batch failed an efficacy test for the active ingredient IR3535, leading the agency to require its removal from the market and prompting the manufacturer to initiate a recall.

In a separate action, Anvisa also prohibited the manufacture, commercialisation, distribution, advertising and use of several DC Biocosméticos products—including shampoos, a pomada, a loção and a bio‑hidratante—and all cosmetics bearing the ATSUM Indústria e Comércio de Cosméticos Ltda. label. The agency cited lack of required sanitary registration and, in one case, false therapeutic claims that would classify the product as a medicine. ATSUM ceased operations in December 2019, but its name remains on product labels. Consumers are instructed to stop using the affected items and to return them to points of purchase or contact the manufacturers for guidance.
