Anvisa seizes counterfeit Mounjaro batches and bans illegal sales in Brazil

Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) issued a resolution on 10 July ordering the seizure of four counterfeit batches of the diabetes‑weight‑loss drug Mounjaro (tirzepatide). The prohibited lots are Mounjaro 10 mg – lot 855044 and Mounjaro 15 mg – lots D880403, MJR 257 and D854901. Irregularities cited include lot numbers not recognised by Eli Lilly, mismatched serial numbers, non‑compatible injection devices and a spelling error on the label (“soluction” instead of “solution”).

In the same resolution Anvisa barred the manufacture, distribution, advertising and sale of a series of unregistered natural‑product supplements produced by companies without a legal operating licence, listing brands such as PSM Pennaforte and Bálsamos Jes.

Separately, Federal Police arrested a 20‑year‑old man at Rio de Janeiro’s Galeão airport after he arrived from Foz do Iguaçu carrying 40 ampoules of tirzepatide‑filled pens that were not accompanied by the required import documentation. He faces charges of contraband and illegal import of unregistered medication, a felony that endangers public health.
