Brazil's automotive market sees used car values rise and new car price shifts

A OLX Autos study shows that Brazilian used cars aged 13 to 20 years appreciated between 12% and 15% from May 2025 to May 2026. The biggest gains were recorded for the 2008 Fiat Palio (+14.7%), the 2009 Volkswagen Voyage (+13.3%) and the 2013 Honda Civic (+12.7%). Manual‑transmission models also performed well, with the 2010 Toyota Corolla manual gaining over 10%. Some newer‑aged models fell, notably the 2013 Volkswagen Gol (‑5.1%) and the 2013 Ford EcoSport (‑8.8%). The data indicates strong consumer demand for older vehicles that combine low maintenance costs with reliable mechanics.

Meanwhile, new‑car pricing in Brazil is volatile. Chevrolet has reduced the price of its Onix hatchback by up to R$20 000 for persons with disabilities and introduced the Onix Log commercial version aimed at the delivery‑vehicle market. These moves come amid broader price competition for models under R$104 000, with buyers urged to consider total cost of ownership, fuel efficiency—especially ethanol‑only engines—and safety equipment. The shifting pricing strategies reflect manufacturers’ attempts to retain market share as interest rates rise and emissions regulations tighten.
