Brazil's Central Bank Orders Forced Liquidation of Sefer Investimentos
The Banco Central do Brasil decreed an extrajudicial liquidation of Sefer Investimentos Distribuidora de Títulos e Valores Mobiliários Ltda. on 26 June 2026. The regulator cited a severe deterioration of the firm’s economic‑financial situation and “grave violations” of financial‑sector rules, which exposed unsecured creditors to an abnormal risk.
Sefer, classified in the prudential S4 segment, holds less than 0.0004 % of the total assets of the national financial system and manages about 0.17 % of third‑party resources. Authorities linked the firm to the Master case, alleging that owner Benjamin Botelho de Almeida acted as a financial operator for Daniel Vorcaro, the head of Banco Master. The Central Bank blocked the assets of Botelho, four controlling companies, and twelve former administrators, and appointed retired auditor Edison Benedito Alexandre as liquidator. The action underscores the Central Bank’s supervisory role over even small‑scale institutions when their failure threatens market stability.
