Brazil's Bahia and Santana ports post record cargo volumes in first half of 2026

The ports administered by the Companhia das Docas do Estado da Bahia (Codeba) logged the highest cargo handling ever for the January‑June period, with a 22.49% year‑on‑year increase. The Aratu‑Candeias terminal moved 3.70 million tonnes, up 26.09%, driven by a 95.77% jump in exports, while the Salvador port handled 3.79 million tonnes, a 20.94% rise. Smaller terminals such as Ilhéus also recorded modest growth and its first shipment of magnesium oxide.

In the North, the Companhia Docas de Santana (CDSA) broke its own record when the vessel Meghna Hope loaded 53,172.894 tonnes of soybeans bound for Turkey, surpassing the previous high of 50,630.933 tonnes. CDSA director‑president Edival Tork said, "This historic result reflects a collective effort that brings together operators and management around a common goal," highlighting ongoing infrastructure investment and rising competitiveness of the Santana terminal.
