Brazil's Banco Inter Saves R$70 Million Monthly Using Twilio Antifraud API
Financial fraud in Brazil rose 10.26% in the first half of 2026, with more than 9 million reported incidents, 78% of which involved mobile devices and the instant‑payment system Pix, which appeared in 85% of cases. Banks are responding with layered security measures such as multi‑factor authentication, encryption and remote account blocking.
Banco Inter has deployed Twilio’s Safer antifraud API, delivering WhatsApp alerts about suspicious card purchases. The system processes about 500 000 alerts each month, achieving a 70% response rate and preventing roughly R$10 million in direct fraud. The bank estimates monthly savings of over R$70 million thanks to the API. Since implementation, the service recorded five million interactions, four million financial operations and 18 000 unique users, while also integrating an AI‑driven voice and image‑based Pix payment feature within WhatsApp.
These initiatives illustrate how Brazilian financial institutions are strengthening digital defenses in response to the surge in cyber‑fraud, following regulatory guidance such as the Central Bank’s Resolution 501.
