Brazilian Bar Association pushes credit‑card payments for court debts

The Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil (OAB) initiated discussions with the Conselho Nacional de Justiça (CNJ) and Caixa Econômica Federal to enable payment of judicial debts by credit card, including the option to parcel installments. The proposal was presented at a meeting at the CNJ and involved CFOAB director‑treasurer Délio Lins e Silva Júnior and representatives of CNJ and Caixa Cartões.

The initiative aims to modernise the payment system in Brazil’s judiciary, offering faster, more accessible transactions, reducing the immediate financial burden on lawyers and citizens, and incorporating security measures to prevent fraud. If adopted, it could improve efficiency in the handling of court‑related obligations and help reduce pending financial arrears in the legal system.
