Brazil expands Bolsa Família support with extra June payments and safeguards during BPC review

A new rule will keep Bolsa Família benefits active for families that apply for the Benefício de Prestação Continuada (BPC) until the INSS finishes the review, preventing an interruption of income. The change, coordinated by the INSS, the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, the Attorney General’s Office and the Public Defender’s Office, ensures that families continue receiving the program’s monthly aid while their BPC request is processed, with the Bolsa Família payment stopping only if the BPC is approved.

For June, the Caixa Econômica Federal is disbursing additional amounts to eligible families: R$ 150 for each child aged 0‑6 under the “Primeira Infância” benefit, and R$ 50 for children aged 7‑18, pregnant women and nursing mothers. Payments follow the NIS‑digit schedule, covering up to 19.3 million households and representing a total investment of R$ 13.08 billion. The base benefit remains at R$ 600, but most families receive higher totals because of these complementary components.

The program, which reaches 5,571 municipalities, aims to strengthen household income, support early childhood development, and maintain social protection for the elderly and people with disabilities during bureaucratic transitions.
