Brazil speeds up major road projects and raises tolls

Governor Otaviano Pivetta announced that the duplication of the BR‑163 highway in Mato Grosso will be completed in half the time stipulated by the ANTT contract. Of the 326 km planned, 230 km are already finished and the remaining 96 km are scheduled for completion by December 2026, with additional work on a 100 km segment between Várzea Grande and Jangada. The concessionaire Nova Rota highlighted its quality‑control laboratory and AI‑driven testing, and the governor noted the road’s importance for moving an estimated 130 million tonnes of grain.

In Minas Gerais, Governor Mateus Simões started the duplication of the BR‑365 corridor between Uberlândia and Patrocínio. The 46 km project, funded with R$ 265 million, is expected to finish by 2028 and is projected to generate more than 5,000 jobs while improving logistics for a key agricultural region.

The state of Espírito Santo began a R$ 40 million macrodrenagem scheme in Viana to eliminate chronic flooding on the BR‑101 corridor. The tunnel‑liner solution aims to restore reliable traffic flow for commuters and freight, strengthening the municipality’s role as a logistics hub.

Separately, the concessionaire ViaSul announced a toll increase on its BR‑101, BR‑290 (Freeway) and BR‑386 plazas, effective 00:00 on 26 June. Drivers will now pay R$ 6.60 per toll plaza, reflecting ANTT‑approved indexation and contract rebalancing.
