BR-324 near Simões Filho reopened after collapse and truck blockage

A sinkhole caused by a damaged culvert forced the total closure of the BR-324 at km 604 in Simões Filho on Tuesday morning. The Department of National Infrastructure of Transport (DNIT) blocked the left lane at about 09:00 and, after inspection, expanded the restriction to a full shutdown around 13:20. The Police Highway Federal (PRF) redirected traffic onto the side lane while crews evaluated the damage.

Later the same day, a truck jackknifed at km 606, creating an “L” shape across both lanes and completely blocking the road in the direction of Feira de Santana. No injuries were reported, but the incident caused severe congestion, with delays of three hours or more extending to Salvador, the CIA‑Aeroporto corridor and surrounding neighborhoods. A tow truck was dispatched to remove the vehicle.

DNIT announced that resurfacing work would be completed by noon on Wednesday, restoring normal traffic flow on the BR-324. Drivers were advised to use alternative routes via BA‑523, BA‑524 and BA‑093.
