Brazil's CAE approves three-year transition for doctors' minimum wage

Brazil's Economic Affairs Commission (CAE) has approved a proposal for a three-year gradual transition to a new minimum wage for doctors and dentists. The new floor is set at R$ 13,662 for a 20-hour work week, a significant increase from the current R$ 3,636.

The implementation will occur in three stages: 40% of the value in the first financial year following the law's publication, 70% in the second, and 100% in the third. This phased approach aims to allow both public and private employers to adapt to the costs and mitigate potential labor market impacts.

The approved text also includes annual adjustments for the private sector based on the IPCA index and increases night shift and overtime premiums to 50%. Additionally, the proposal maintains the requirement for the Federal Government to provide full compensation to states and municipalities for increased personnel expenses through the National Health Fund (FNS).
