Brazil's Caixa deposits R$13 bn FGTS profit for 138 million workers

The Caixa Econômica Federal began automatic deposits of R$13.04 billion into the Fundo de Garantia do Tempo de Serviço (FGTS) accounts of 138.2 million Brazilian workers on 31 July 2026. The payment represents 89 % of the FGTS’s 2025 profit, which totaled about R$14.7 billion. The credit is reflected in each worker’s linked FGTS account and is identified by the entry “AC CRED DIST RESULTADO ANO BASE 12/2025”.

The distribution cannot be withdrawn immediately; funds may be accessed only under conditions set by law, such as dismissal without cause, retirement, purchase of a home, serious illness, or participation in the optional birthday‑withdrawal scheme. The added profit raises the total annual return on FGTS balances to 6.9 %, a real gain of roughly 2.5 percentage points above the 2025 inflation rate (IPCA 4.26 %). The credit corresponds to an increase of about 1.87 % of each account’s balance, calculated by multiplying the December‑31‑2025 balance by the factor 0.01868341.
