Brazil's Bolsa Família payments and benefit rules continue in May 2026

The Federal Savings Bank (Caixa Econômica Federal) paid the May 2026 installment of Bolsa Família to beneficiaries whose Social Registration Number (NIS) ends in 9 and 7. The minimum payment is R$600, with the average amount rising to R$678.01 due to supplemental allowances for pregnant women, nursing mothers, children aged 7‑18 and those under 6. In May the program will reach 19.08 million families, costing an estimated R$12.9 billion.

Early payments were made on the 18th of the month for 217 municipalities across nine states, benefiting areas affected by drought, floods or indigenous vulnerability. Additional measures include the “Benefício Variável Familiar Nutriz” for mothers of infants and a “rule of protection” that allows families with improved income to receive 50 % of the benefit for up to two years.

Municipal authorities in Ilhéus urged families to update their CadÚnico registration within the mandated two‑year cycle, warning that outdated data can lead to suspension or cancellation of Bolsa Família and related benefits such as the Social Energy Tariff and the Continuous Benefit Payment (BPC).

The federal government outlined 2026 guidelines: eligibility requires per‑capita household income of up to R$218, mandatory health and education conditionalities, and complementary benefits like the Citizenship Income Benefit (R$142 per person) and the First‑Child Benefit (R$150 per child).
