Brazil's cassava industry reaches processing record as Bahia launches new agro‑industrial facilities

The Brazilian cassava (mandioca) sector recorded a historic processing peak in 2025, grinding 3.13 million tonnes of roots – a 5.5% increase over the previous year – and generating a gross production value of R$2.14 billion. Installed capacity rose to 25.6 thousand tonnes per day, with Paraná supplying roughly two‑thirds of the nation's output. Prices for cassava starch averaged R$3,122 per tonne, supporting the sector’s earnings despite a modest 0.5% drop in total starch production.

In the municipality of Riacho de Santana, Bahia, the state government inaugurated a new honey‑processing unit and upgraded a cassava‑derivatives agro‑industry. The R$12 million rural investment also delivered a tractor, agricultural implements and 200 water tanks, benefiting around 150 local beekeepers and improving conditions for cassava processing and other family‑farm enterprises.

These developments illustrate a dual trend of expanding large‑scale industrial capacity and targeted regional projects aimed at adding value to Brazil’s cassava supply chain.
