Brazil's Central Bank Reports Pix Data Leak in Maranhão Police System

The Central Bank of Brazil disclosed an unauthorized access incident affecting a system operated by the Police Civil of Maranhão. Approximately 828 Pix keys were queried, exposing only cadastral information such as names, CPF numbers, bank identifiers and key creation dates. The leak did not include passwords, account balances, transaction histories or any data that would allow financial transfers.

The Central Bank emphasized that the compromised data cannot be used to move funds, but warned the public about potential phishing attempts. It announced that the police will host a dedicated channel on their website for individuals to check whether their information was involved. No direct contact will be made with affected users via phone, SMS, email or messaging apps. Investigations and technical analyses are ongoing.
