Brazilian Chamber of Deputies approves multiple transport‑related bills
The Education Commission of Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies approved a bill allowing federal, state and municipal traffic agencies to provide schools with videos, games and apps on road safety, removing a prior requirement to install a specific app.
The Senate’s Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Committee (CCJ) is set to vote on a proposal that expands preventive detention for drivers who cause accidents while under the influence of alcohol, drugs or certain medications, and raises penalties for homicide and serious injury caused by intoxicated driving.
The Urban Development Committee passed a law creating a National Intermunicipal Mobility Program to ensure regular, safe public transport for isolated interior municipalities, integrating services with the health (SUS) and social assistance (SUAS) systems.
A separate urban mobility bill, also approved by the Urban Development Committee, adds the prevention of sexual harassment and violence against women in public transport to the National Urban Mobility Policy, making safety measures a statutory obligation for transport operators and authorities.
