Brazil's Chico Mendes Park and Brusque Zoobotânico Celebrate Milestones

The Parque Ambiental Chico Mendes in Rio Branco, Acre, marked its 30th anniversary on 31 May with a public program that included environmental education activities, a cultural exhibition, and the installation of a time capsule. Park director Joseline Guimarães invited families to connect with nature and learn about the park’s history, which honors the late Amazon defender Chico Mendes.

In Brusque, Santa Catarina, the Parque Zoobotânico celebrated its 34th year on 30 May with an exhibition of historic photographs and taxidermied animals. The display, part of the city’s 166‑year commemorations, highlighted the park’s role in preserving Atlantic Forest biodiversity. Educator Priscila Dauer emphasized the importance of environmental education and community responsibility for sustainable futures.
