Brazil's CNJ clamps down on judges in Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul

The National Justice Council (CNJ) archived three disciplinary complaints against suspended Mato Grosso judge João Ferreira Filho, finding no minimum elements to open a disciplinary process and noting that the council cannot act as a review body for judicial decisions. The complaints related to allegations of a sentence‑selling scheme uncovered after the murder of lawyer Roberto Zampieri; the rulings were signed by CNJ corregedor Mauro Campbell Marques.

Separately, the CNJ ordered the Tribunal de Justiça of Mato Grosso do Sul to return overpayments made to magistrates in the March‑April 2026 payroll. The audit identified improper inclusion of an “Indenização de cargo” line and a duplicated calculation of the constitutional vacation bonus. The excess amount will be recovered through salary deductions in June and July 2026, also directed by Mauro Campbell Marques.
