Brazil's coastal agencies issue weekend beach safety warnings in Salvador, João Pessoa and Pitimbu

The Salvador Maritime Rescue Coordination (Salvamar), part of the city's Public Order Secretariat, warned that the sea remains rough and unsuitable for swimming along the city's shoreline this weekend. Coordinator Kailani Dantas said, "Since Wednesday the sea has been influenced by cold fronts and swell, increasing wave strength and strengthening return currents. We identified waves between 1.5 and 2 metres, some larger, making the sea highly dangerous across the entire coast and the North Coast." Salvamar urged bathers to respect red‑flag warnings, stay near lifeguard posts, avoid swimming in unguarded areas and follow safety instructions if caught in a current.

In the state of Paraíba, the Superintendence of Environmental Administration (Sudema) declared four beach sections unsuitable for bathing until next Friday. The affected stretches are Tambaú and Praia do Sol in João Pessoa, and Praia do Maceió and Acaú/Pontinha in Pitimbu. The restriction applies within 100 metres of each collection point, while the rest of the beaches remain open.
