Brazil's specialty coffee segment reaches 8% of national consumption

Specialty coffee has become a growing niche in Brazil, now accounting for between 7% and 8% of total coffee consumption. Industry experts attribute the rise to a more demanding consumer base that values quality, traceability and sensory attributes such as aroma and flavor. The shift is especially pronounced among younger shoppers, including Generation Z, who are willing to pay higher prices for premium beans sourced from regions like Caparaó, the Capixaba mountains and the Chapada Diamantina.

Analysts forecast that the specialty segment could expand to 15% of the market within the next five years, driven by double‑digit annual growth globally. This trend is reshaping retail shelf space, with supermarkets allocating larger areas to high‑quality coffee products and cafés reporting increased footfall from young customers seeking a ritualized coffee experience.
