Brazil's Copasa Signs Long-Term Water Contracts; Sabesp Moves to Merge with EMAE

Companhia de Saneamento de Minas Gerais (Copasa) announced new water supply and sewage contracts with the municipalities of Contagem and Betim, effective through 2073. The agreements, covering about 9.5 % of Copasa’s revenue, include a R$520 million investment over ten years—R$270 million for Contagem and R$250 million for Betim—aimed at expanding infrastructure and ensuring financial balance.

Separately, São Paulo’s water utility Sabesp reported that shareholders approved the incorporation of the remaining shares of EMAE (Empresa Metropolitana de Águas e Energia). The deal, which exchanges Sabesp shares at a ratio of 1.3195 per EMAE share, still requires approval from EMAE’s shareholders and further compliance with the Brazilian securities regulator CVM. The merger is intended to unify management and improve operational efficiency across the two firms.
