Brazil Supreme Court Justice Cármen Lúcia warns of AI election risks and rapid Senate vote on sexual violence protocol

Supreme Court Justice Cármen Lúcia addressed the Brazilian Internet Congress in Brasília, warning that artificial intelligence and deep‑fakes could undermine the integrity of elections by spreading misinformation faster than facts can be verified. She stressed that technology must serve citizens and that unchecked AI use threatens democratic freedoms.

Lúcia also expressed alarm over a Senate‑approved project that suspends a resolution guiding assistance to victims of sexual violence, including minors under 14, in cases where abortion is permitted. She criticised the speed of the vote and the lack of public debate, noting that such fundamental rights issues require thorough discussion and may be subject to judicial review by the Supreme Court.
