Brazil's cultural sector faces high informality among 5.9 million workers

The cultural sector in Brazil represents a significant portion of the workforce, with IBGE data from 2024 indicating that approximately 5.9 million people—or 5.8% of the country's total workers—are employed in this field. However, the sector faces challenges regarding stability, as 44.6% of these professionals work in informal occupations.

To build a sustainable artistic career, professionals are encouraged to move past the misconception that suffering is a prerequisite for creativity or that financial stability compromises artistic identity. Success requires managing practical aspects such as cost calculation, deadline negotiation, client acquisition, and project planning. Illustrator and professor Guilherme Laqua suggests that prosperity should be viewed as a balanced flow across different life areas rather than just the accumulation of wealth or status.
