Danilo the only Brazil player on charter flight back after World Cup loss

Following Brazil's 2-1 defeat to Norway in the round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Confederación Brasileña de Fútbol (CBF) chartered a plane to Rio de Janeiro. Only Flamengo defender Danilo boarded the flight, arriving at Rio's Tom Jobim International Airport with technical staff and federation officials. All other 25 players were released immediately and chose to begin their holidays from the United States or travel to personal destinations – Neymar flew to Orlando with his family, Vinícius Júnior headed to New York before a stay in Ibiza, and Endrick remained in New Jersey. Coach Carlo Ancelotti travelled to Vancouver, Canada, for a short break with his wife. CBF executive Rodrigo Caetano confirmed that using the charter flight was optional and emphasized continuity of the coaching staff despite the early exit, noting that several young players gained valuable minutes during the tournament. The almost empty return flight became a symbolic image of Brazil’s abrupt elimination.

The departure marked the end of Brazil’s campaign, which had been expected to contend for the title. The federation has already scheduled two friendly matches in Australia for September, as it begins planning for the next competitive cycle.
