Brazil's Defensoria Public reopens identity and paternity registration

In the state of Acre, a technical failure on the Defensoria's portal forced the public defender's office to ask people who had already signed up for its “Viver com Meu Nome” and “Meu Pai Tem Nome” programs to submit new applications. The “Viver com Meu Nome” initiative assists transgender, travesti and non‑binary individuals in correcting name and gender on civil registers; registration is open until 26 June, with a service scheduled for 4 July at the Defensoria headquarters in Rio Branco. The “Meu Pai Tem Nome” program, now in its fifth edition, facilitates voluntary recognition of paternity or maternity and civil record regularisation; registrations remain open until 1 July, with services planned for 1 August.

In Rondônia, the Defensoria Public is also running the “Meu Pai Tem Nome” campaign, accepting registrations until 7 August for a series of free assistance sessions on 15 August 2026 across Porto Velho and numerous municipal offices. The campaign aims to help people who lack a parent’s name on birth certificates obtain legal recognition, which can affect rights such as inheritance, social benefits and family visitation. Applicants must provide identity documents and relevant civil records; DNA testing is offered where needed.
