Brazil's Desenrola 2.0 program records over 17,000 FGTS debt‑relief operations
More than 17,000 workers have used the second phase of Brazil's Desenrola 2.0 programme to access FGTS funds for debt repayment within just over a month. The average withdrawal was R$ 604.73 per worker. The federal government set aside R$ 10.3 million in this phase to support negotiations with lower interest rates and discounts.
The programme’s saque‑aniversário component released R$ 16.7 billion for 14.6 million workers whose contracts ended or were suspended between 2020 and 2025, of which R$ 14.9 billion was actually paid. Extraordinary FGTS withdrawals since 2023 total R$ 34.7 billion. By early June, requests for the new modality had already mobilised R$ 3.88 billion, with the government aiming to free up to R$ 8.2 billion.
Desenrola 2.0 allows workers to use up to 20 % of their FGTS balance, or up to R$ 1 000, whichever is higher, to renegotiate debts incurred up to 31 January 2026 that are 90 days to two years overdue. Eligible debt types include credit‑card, overdraft and personal loans, with interest capped at 1.99 % per month and discounts ranging from 30 % to 90 % of the principal.
