Brazil's Distrito Federal boosts surveillance with 500 AI cameras and launches integrated security communications net

The Distrito Federal government in Brasília announced the expansion of its surveillance system in the Conic area to roughly 500 high‑definition cameras equipped with artificial‑intelligence facial‑recognition technology. The rollout, presented on 30 June at the Boulevard Center, will be operated through the new DF 360º platform and includes features such as an emergency alert button for merchants and a bicycle patrol unit.

Separately, the Ministry of Communications unveiled a 1‑billion‑real project to create a dedicated private network for public agencies and security forces. The network, called the Private Government Network, will integrate the Federal District Police, the Brazilian Army, and the congressional police services, allowing secure, real‑time communication in field operations. The first phase links 12 public buildings with 75.5 km of fiber; full deployment is planned for December 2027.
