Brazil's DNIT Extends Emergency Road Measures on BR-304 and BR-364

The National Department of Infrastructure and Transportation (DNIT) declared a state of emergency for a 10‑kilometre segment of federal highway BR‑304 that serves as the main access to the beaches of Aracati, Ceará. The emergency, formalized by a July 2026 ordinance, allows DNIT to carry out urgent works and direct contracts to improve road safety and capacity, addressing structural and signaling problems identified by recent inspections and a federal prosecutor’s investigation.

Separately, DNIT confirmed the continuation of the emergency status for the bridge over the Rio Caeté on kilometer 282.65 of BR‑364 in Acre. The decision, issued in a late‑June ordinance and signed by regional superintendent Ricardo Araújo, keeps priority actions in place until the bridge’s structural deficiencies are fully resolved, preserving a critical transport link for passengers and freight in the state.
