Brazil's Eco Invest auction aims to mobilise up to R$50 bn for green innovation
Brazil’s Finance and Environment ministries launched the fifth Eco Invest auction, targeting up to R$50 billion (about €8.6 bn) of private investment for strategic green‑technology chains. The programme will create six Innovation Funds and a corporate‑credit line, each with catalytic public capital that can be leveraged at least three‑fold by banks. Priority areas include sustainable aviation fuel, advanced green fuels, green fertilizers, AI‑driven automation, critical‑mineral processing, battery systems and electric‑vehicle technologies.
Officials said the auction could become the largest in the Eco Invest series, which has already mobilised more than R$140 billion across four previous rounds. Finance Minister Dario Durigan highlighted the need for resilience amid global fuel‑price pressures linked to the Iran conflict, noting Brazil’s comparatively limited exposure but stressing the importance of expanding green‑fuel, biomethane and fertilizer investments.
The auction will be run in July, with banks required to match public funds with at least double their contribution, aiming to attract both domestic and foreign private capital and to support university‑linked research and overseas technology acquisitions.
