Brazil's Electoral Court creates AI oversight commission and boosts digital security

The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) in Brazil has established a permanent commission to monitor the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the electoral system. The body will develop guidelines for ethical, transparent and secure AI applications, oversee contracts and tools, collaborate with universities and research centers, and target deep‑fake disinformation that could affect public opinion during campaigns.

In parallel, the TSE approved a new Information Security Policy that sets nationwide standards for preventing, detecting and responding to digital incidents. The policy mandates risk management, access controls, vulnerability monitoring, data protection, backups and response teams, and requires all regional electoral courts to fully adopt the measures by the end of 2027. It also creates dedicated security commissions within each court and expands responsibility for cyber‑security to judges, staff and contractors.
