Brazil's Electoral Court Head Rejects Film Ban and Delays Party Case

Brazil's Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) president, minister Kassio Nunes Marques, dismissed a lawsuit seeking to block the release of the documentary film "Dark Horse" about former president Jair Bolsonaro. The court rejected the case on procedural grounds without examining the film's content, allowing its planned September release to proceed.

In a separate matter, Minister Nunes Marques has kept a case involving alleged gender‑quota fraud by three state deputies from Goiás' PP party stalled for over a year. The case, which could lead to the removal of the deputies, remains under his control despite a recommendation from the Electoral Prosecutor's Office, with no timetable for a plenary vote.

Both decisions highlight the minister's discretion in managing high‑profile electoral litigations and the procedural hurdles that can affect political actors ahead of upcoming elections.
