Brazil's electoral courts impose fine on absent poll workers and start 2026 voter‑assistant recruitment

The Regional Electoral Court of Amazonas (TRE‑AM) fixed a fine of R$ 175 per shift for poll workers who miss their duties without justification. The penalty, signed by Judge Áurea Lina Gomes Araújo, raises the previous range of R$ 3.51‑17.56 to deter absenteeism and strengthen election organization in Manaus.

The Regional Electoral Court of Minas Gerais (TRE‑MG) began calling approximately 215,000 volunteers to serve as poll workers for Brazil’s 2026 general elections. Invitations are sent via email, in‑person notices and a verified WhatsApp number, and candidates must complete mandatory training through various channels. Selected workers will receive a R$ 65 meal allowance per shift and other benefits, while logistical support staff are also being recruited.
