Brazil's Aneel raises tariffs and keeps yellow flag for July

The National Electricity Agency (Aneel) approved several tariff adjustments across Brazil’s power sector. It authorized an average 10.18% increase for Enel São Paulo customers, affecting about 8.9 million users, with residential rates rising 9.02%, low‑tension users 8.97% and high‑tension users 15%. Separately, Energisa Tocantins will see a 7.92% average hike, and transmission companies may raise revenues by 9.41% for the 2026‑27 cycle.

Aneel also confirmed that the yellow tariff‑flag will remain in effect for July, adding R$ 1.885 per 100 kWh to all consumers’ bills due to lower hydro‑reservoir levels and higher‑cost thermal generation during the dry season.

In addition, the agency endorsed a voluntary advance of R$ 5.6 billion into the Development Energy Fund (CDE), intended to lower electricity costs in 19 states, and approved a R$ 872.1 million “Itaipu Bonus” to be credited to eligible residential and rural customers in August. These measures aim to mitigate price pressures while supporting the sector’s financial stability.
